I've sat up for the past couple weeks thinking about everything. The burden of deciding the fate of an organization that you founded can be unbearable at times. This community has achieved a lot but also been through even more. I'll share with you a bit of its history leading up to the most recent events, the reasons behind why the community is being shut down and some other information.
Over the past year and a half its been quite a costly one financially for me. There have been a few other people that have assisted with financials but to a very limited degree. Just to give you an idea about a week ago just myself personally I reached the $20,000 mark on the community over the past year and a half as I've been carefully keeping track. Sure we've made some money in between and gotten some free stuff here and there but it didn't really do much. Everything from server boxes to website licenses to templates and mods all have cost money but its what the community needed so I found a way.
Community definitely has seen its fair share of problems too. I think one of the bigger ones was when Frag Dominant was responsible for taking down our website assets and literally destroying our website for a week or two. It was a thrill going after the individual responsible but it didn't really solve the problems it created on our end. The first time Moorehead (second in command at the time) betrayed the community and I was stupid enough to offer a second chance only for him to date a manager, get thrown out of the community again and try to kill us off every chance he had. If it wasn't him trying to take us out it was his new girlfriend and from what I'm told fience Miss Vendetta which was also removed from the community. I mildly regret bringing her aboard the community. Another instance where I used poor judgment in my management ways. Prior to this incident with Moorehead and Vendetta we had DJ Mark of Death (Global Game Cast) which scammed us and stole several hundred dollars of the communities money. That's still being looked into but hes virtually disappeared. Then as of recently Secret going crazy and blaming me for everything bad that's happened to Tc. Unexpected and who knows if its factual or not. I won't say I'm completely innocent but the decisions I made I didn't have much of a choice. Some may not agree with my decisions but I wouldn't have made them otherwise.
I'd say over the past six months was both great and horrible. Appreciation level from members and staff was at an all time low. Nothing we did (That includes Secret, Hydro and myself) was enough to please them. We do one thing and they want ten more things. Process continued on a regular basis which stressed out all three of us and probably resulted in Secret's meltdown the other day. I can understand some things needing to be done but sometimes its just too much. Everything was consuming our lives with this community. I personally was putting in a good forty or so hours a week and Secret/Hydro were doing about the same. That was all volunteer hours. Every dispute we had to get involved in, every change we made and everything we did for the community not only came out of our pockets but we didn't get much in return for it. People leaving because we don't have servers yet refusing to donate to get them.
I guess I had different expectations of members of a community. Maybe gaming communities really are dead and a waste of time. Its definitely a very sad day for me and a revealing day of the true nature of gamers and people that exist out there.
I met some great people along the way and some assholes too. Guess thats par for the course. I was going to do a shoutout but I decided that I won't bother. I wouldn't want to leave anybody out and some things I'd want to say, lets just say wouldn't be the best to say to some of the people.
As for me, it's unclear what I will be doing. I can say this though. It will be a vacation to actually be able to play video games once again, not volunteer forty hours of work a week to a community that I'm financially spending more than half of my monthly income on.
TeamSpeak3 and general website assets go down on 5/25 and will remain online up until that time.
Thank you and good luck to every one of you. It's been fun but very depressing here at the end. Truly a shame things had to come to this.
Sincerely,
Chris
